A unique opportunity has arisen to join a purposeful charity, delivering day club services for adults across Gloucestershire to improve the lives of unpaid Carers. The Azalea Day Clubs are an established service, as part of our core aims and objectives to support family Carers. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced person to lead the service in the next phase of our growth plan.


Crossroads Care Gloucestershire has operated as a charity across Gloucestershire for over 40 years. The core aim of the charity is to provide support to family Carer’s to take a break. In addition to our Care at Home service, the charity has developed an established model of innovative day support. Currently, operating six day clubs per week across the county of Gloucestershire. The service offers person centred support with enriching opportunities for adults with a varied range of health conditions and disabilities. Our aim is to support social interaction and companionship, reduce loneliness, help maintain self-confidence and to offer a range of enjoyable and stimulating activities that provide a focus to our service users’ days, whilst also providing respite breaks for family carers.


The purpose of the role is to ensure that the day club service is run in accordance with Crossroads Care Gloucestershire’s strategic plan, including expansion of the service, and adhering to our policies and procedures, providing a safe and person-centred service to the individuals attending the service, and their family Carers. You will lead a team of staff to ensure the culture and values of the organisation are upheld.

As Head of Day Club Services, you will be part of the Senior Management Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer to ensure the strategic aims of the charity and Azalea Day Clubs are delivered and monthly KPI’s are reported on.

  • Guide and direct staff in the provision of the designated activities of the service, delivering to adults with a range of different disabilities or health conditions appropriately.
  • Manage new referrals efficiently and timely and ensure that new clients are made welcome and integrated into the group.
  • Undertaking person centred Support Plans and risk assessments required to ensure that our services are suitable for a prospective user.
  • Coordinate annual reviews of the individual support plans.
  • Managing a safe and supportive environment for all our service users during their visits to the clubs, taking responsibility to ensure appropriate risk assessments are in place for individuals and premises.
  • Ensure that the interests of all service users are represented by staff, service users themselves and family members.
  • Liaison with families/carers of service users in a professional and confidential manner over any health or welfare issues which arise.
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are reported in line with organisation and statutory requirements.
  • Manage any complaints and concerns and ensure that learning from such incidents is implemented across the team to improve service provision and quality.
  • Identify when the day club may no longer be appropriate for a particular client with a view to transferring to one of our other services.
  • Developing local knowledge of needs and a network of contacts, with the objective of marketing the opportunities we provide to referrers, funders, and all other stakeholders.
  • Leading on the expansion and development of Day Clubs, according to the strategic aims of the charity, increasing and maintaining the numbers of people accessing our services at the Azalea Day Clubs, in line with Crossroads Care Gloucestershire’s growth strategy.
  • Resourcing the service appropriately with the Day Club staff and volunteers.

To be considered as Head of Azalea Day Club Services, you need:

· A full valid driving license and vehicle to drive and confidence to drive a small minibus(No special license requirements for this)

· To be educated to QCF Diploma or NVQ Level 5 or be willing to work towards this.

· At least 3 years’ experience of managing providing services to adults and vulnerable people in a social care setting.

· Significant experience of staff management and supervision in a relevant social care, health, voluntary sector setting which met quality, regulatory/legislative requirements.

· Demonstrable experience of caring and supporting elderly people with a variety of needs, such as mobility impairment, long term health conditions, early onset dementia/Alzheimer’s disease

· Creativity (e.g. in using community resources, problem solving, dealing with Service User needs)

· Experience of inspiring and motivating teams and examples of how you have promoted a positive culture for service users within a team.

· Demonstrable skills in supervising and monitoring employee performance and be capable of providing training, induction, and guidance to the team.

· A proven track of budget management

· A proven team leader with excellent written and verbal communication skills, in both 1:1 and group situations, and especially able to communicate with tact and sensitivity when appropriate.

· Professional and respectful of confidentiality

· A confident networker, able to inspire the confidence and respect of Carers, stakeholders, and local agencies.

· The ability to set priorities, meeting deadlines and be comfortable working under pressure, and able to prioritise tasks and organise time efficiently.

· Commercial and financial awareness to pro-actively manage the performance of the service.

· A flexible and can-do approach to managing varied tasks and adapting to the changing needs of the role.

· To be supportive of change, always showing flexibility and reliability.

· Good IT and computer skills – good working knowledge of email, Excel and Microsoft Office

Travel is required across Gloucestershire to our Azalea Day Club sites.
